Few rides offer participants the opportunity to both work hard for a worthwhile cause while in such picturesque surroundings. Showcasing the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley, The Ride for Mental Health offers a variety of routes in a stunning setting. The Ride for Mental Health is one of the first charity bike rides in the country where the proceeds will go to fund education, research and treatment of mental illness including anxiety, borderline personality disorder, depression, eating disorders and substance abuse. Come join us for a weekend of fully supported, great riding over terrific country roads with plenty of rest stops. Available rides include 25, miles, 50 miles, 75 miles and 100 miles.

The Details

The first 150 riders to register will also be treated to dinner at a wonderful site within the Mohonk Preserve.

Your choice of 1 or 2 days of riding on 4 different scenic routes to create your own personal adventure. Choose between two 50 mile loops which takes you  from New Paltz up to the Ashokan Reservoir and returns with a couple of climbs including a 2-mile climb over the "Gunks". You can also ride 75 miles by doing one of the 50 mile routes and then doing the 25 mile route. The route is up to you!

The Routes

Rail Trail | 14 mile ride | 9:00am start time

Perfect for children and family rides. The rail trail is also a great option for those who don't want to ride on the roads. The rail trail is a very flat packed dirt, grass and gravel route. Ride north between fields and woods up the breathtaking trestle over the Esopus Creek in Rosendale. A great spot to dismount and take in the view before turning around back to to New Paltz.

25 mile loop | 9:00am start time

A relatively easy, local ride of 25 miles through the Wallkill River Valley. Enjoy the rolling terrain past river and farmlands, punctuated with panoramic views of the Shawangunk Ridge.

50 mile (North or South Route) | 9:00am start time

ROUTE UPDATED Feb. 5

Your choice of North OR South loop: you can either ride an easy to moderate 50 mile southern route that passes through vineyards, apple orchards and horse farms on mainly rolling terrain with great views of the Shawangunk Ridge—OR—you can choose the moderate northern route with a challenging 2-mile climb over the Shawangunk Ridge. The northern route passes through farms, fields, and wooded sections on the way to the Ashokan Reservoir before turning back to New Paltz.

100 mile loop  (Combination of North and South Route) | 8:30am start time

ROUTE UPDATED Feb. 5

The 100 mile ride combines both of the 50 mile routes. You will travel north and south of New Paltz over mostly moderate terrain with the exception of a challenging climb over “the Gunks”. The route passes through farms, fields and woods on the way to the Ashokan Reservoir. Don’t miss the amazing view of the Catskills as you climb over the ridge. The southerly half of the route is lined with vineyards, apple orchards and horse farms and is mostly rolling terrain.

New for 2018. Our virtual rider category allows you to participate in The Ride without the ride. Support The Ride even if you unable to participate! There is NO fundraising minimum or any limits to your effort. Please sign up on BikeReg.com and begin your fundraising efforts.
