Volunteer Job Schedule

The Ride would not be possible without the hard work and support of volunteers. 

Volunteering for the Ride for Mental Health is a powerful experience. Our volunteers have a direct impact on the success of this event. It’s fun, you get swag and you get to be our guest at a fun party Saturday night complete with views, a farm to table dinner, and local beer & cider. 

Here’s how you can help!  Find a job based on when you can help and your interested. See the time table below and the descriptions that follow on the next page.  Then register to volunteer.

Volunteer Job Descriptions


Set Up

Saturday from  6:30 AM-9:00 AM
Sunday from 6:30 AM-9:00 AM

Location : New Paltz, NY

Unload supplies from vehicles. 
Organize food and supplies on tables.
Hang directional signs.

 

Sign Installation

Friday 8:30 AM-4:30 PM

 

Location: Along the Ride routes

One of the specialties of the Ride for Mental Health is the amazing signage leading riders along more than 100 miles of beautiful country roads.  Two teams of at least three people are sent out to mark the route on Friday. If you want to see the road course and like working in a team, this is a great way to be outside and complete a really important task and something The Ride has become famous for.

 

Start/Finish

Saturday from 7:30 AM- 5:00 PM
Sunday from 7:30 AM- 5:00 PM

 

Location : New Paltz, NY

Greet Riders and direct them to the start. 
Share answers from our list of FAQ.
Keep food tables supplied. 
Help load vehicles at the end of the day.
Cheer as we send Riders off!
Cheer as we welcome Riders to the finish line!

 

Sign Patrol

Saturday from 6:30-8:30 AM
Sunday from 6:30-8:30 AM
Sunday from 1:30 AM to 7:30 PM

 

Location: Along the Ride routes

If you love driving on beautiful mountain roads, this job is for you! 
Drive the Ride course and confirm navigation signs are in place.
Replace missing signs. 
Drive the Ride course and pick up signs once the Ride is over on Sunday afternoon.
*Drivers must have valid drivers license. Each vehicle will have a driver and a navigator.  If you are not a licensed driver, you can volunteer for this job as a navigator.

 

Rest Stops

Saturday from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM 
Sunday from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM 
*Rest Stops are broken up in shifts: morning and afternoon.

 

Location: Various locations along the Ride Course

Pick up rest stop supplies in New Paltz
Drive to your assigned rest stop location. 
Set up your food and supplies and get ready to welcome riders. 

This is a great job to do with a team, family, or group of friends! Get a theme and decorate your rest stop, bring music, and have a great time interacting and supporting riders. 

Must have vehicle. Working at a rest step means you must transport yourself and your team to pick up supplies in New Paltz then drive to your rest stop location. Rest stop supplies include a large cooler, 1-2 five gallon jugs of water and Gatorade, and boxes of food. Each rest stop is equipped with a tent, porto potty, chairs, and Ride banner.

 

Course Support

Saturday from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM 
Sunday from 8:00 AM-5:00 PM

 

Location: Mobile along the Ride Courses

Drive the Ride routes and track and assist riders. You’ll drive with a partner. One person drives and another navigates and tracks the riders you pass. Transport riders or assist with flat tires. 
*Must have valid drivers license. The Ride can provide vehicle.  If you are not a licensed driver, you can volunteer for this job as a navigator.

 

Check In & Registration

Friday from 9:00 AM-9:00 PM

Welcome riders to the the big event!
Check people in.
Distribute swag.

 

Food Preparation

Friday from 12:00 PM-4:00 PM
Saturday from 7:00 AM-10:00 AM
Sunday from 7:00 AM-10:00 AM

Location: Along the Ride routes

Help make sandwiches! PB & J plus our signature ‘mater and mayo. 
Pack up sandwiches and other food supplies for distribution.

 

Photography & Videography

Saturday from 7:30 AM- 4:30 PM
Sunday from 7:30 AM- 4:30 PM

 

Location: Mobile along the Ride Courses

If you have experience documenting special events in pics and film please share your skills with us! You’ll be paired up with a driver and travel all along the scenic Ride routes. We’ll take you to breath taking shot locations where you can capture large groups of riders along mountain vistas, farm lands, and beautiful wooded roads.

 

Break Down & Clean Up

Sunday

 

Location: Along the Ride routes

Help us close out the 2021 Ride for Mental Health! 
Pack equipment and supplies and load it in vehicles. 
Organize and clean supplies. 
Drive to Kingston, NY to return fleet of support vehicles then carpool back to the New Paltz.

 

Vehicle Pick Up & Return

Friday afternoon (Time TBD)
Sunday 5:00 PM

 

Location: New Paltz to Kingston

Help us pick up or drop off our fleet of vehicles used for Course Support. Thanks to the generous support of Bengal Motors in Kingston we have several vehicles to pick up in Kingston. Carpool to Kingston on Friday afternoon then drive a vehicle back to New Paltz. We’ll be returning all vehicles on Sunday after the Ride is over, around 5:00 PM. We’ll plan a caravan up to Kingston then carpool back.
